AWS re:Invent 2019: WarnerMedia/HBO’s cloud-based linear playout system (MDS301)

In this session, HBO presents its file-based broadcast-channel playout system. Due to high-profile content such as Game of Thrones, the system provides three paths of resiliency for broadcast, including affiliate delivery plus an emergency workflow that includes remote access. HBO has also designed its system to auto-failover between on-premises and cloud playout including dual AWS Direct Connect paths. The system leverages the broad library of HBO assets stored in Amazon S3, enabling playout on-demand.
