This week, we looked at a virtual tour that takes users inside The Spheres, located in the heart of Amazon headquarters in Seattle, WA. The Spheres house 40,000 plants from the cloud forest regions of over 30 countries. Using Amazon Sumerian, we created a visually dynamic and immersive experience that enabled users to explore The Spheres and look at annotated descriptions to learn about many rare and exotic plants. The Spheres tour experience can be viewed on a laptop, digital display, mobile device, and even a virtual reality headset. We showed you how we built this experience using readily available cameras to capture 360 degree images which were collected, edited, and stitched together to create the tour experience. In addition, we will discuss the techniques used to show you how to create similar experiences on your own!
